Developing Consensus’ private sector members and public sector associates gathered to hear about the latest developments within the North East Combined Authority at the membership organisation’s September meeting.
The property and development group, which has a unique approach to cross-collaboration across the public and private sectors, welcomed Rob Hamilton, Head of Strategy and Innovation at North East Combined Authority and Rachel Burdis, Inward Investment Manager at North East Combined Authority to speak to its membership about progress following the North East Mayor’s appointment.
Rob provided insight and updates on NECA’s work to date and listened to feedback from private sector members throughout the meeting. While Rachel detailed the integration of Invest North East England into NECA and how the organisation will work hand in hand with local authorities going forward to encourage investment.
Sandra Manson, Chair of Developing Consensus, said: “As a membership we’re delighted to be working alongside NECA, acting as a critical friend while putting forward the views of our private sector members. Our membership is keen to fully engage with the Authority and assist wherever possible so that we may build the most prosperous economy for our region.

Further speakers at the event included:
- Louise Sloan, Assistant Director of Planning from Newcastle City Council who highlighted the recent review of the Newcastle planning service and gave an insight to the refreshed Pre-App service due to be launched
- Charlie Renwick, Divisional Director at Lycetts who were hosting the event, gave an introduction to the insurance specialists and detailed how they were pleased to have located to Bank House and be part of the ongoing ambitious redevelopment of the Pilgrim St area.
- Jen Hartley, Director of Invest Newcastle who gave an update on the national and international events programme helping to drive investment and raise the profile of the region.
Following the talks, members broke out into workshop sessions to look at Developing Consensus’ key pillar groups and discuss priorities and barriers to growth.
Sandra added: “This meeting really encapsulated everything we’re about at Developing Consensus. Our members are at the forefront of developments happening across the region, and our network and collaboration with the public sector allows us to not only be the first to know about plans and progress but also the first to provide comment and insight.
