Sandra Manson would have been attending MIPIM in Cannes this month alongside the Invest Newcastle team. With the event now postponed, the Senior Director of Pegasus Group and new member of Developing Consensus, spoke of the event and how even in the face of adversity the Newcastle delegation’s passion and determination still shines through.

It was the right decision to postpone MIPIM but that still didn’t stop it being terribly disappointing. The whole Newcastle delegation and Invest Newcastle team worked incredibly hard to put together such a fantastic programme of events and range of development opportunities to showcase.

At one of the Newcastle MIPIM events last week Pat Richie, Chief Executive of Newcastle City Council, couldn’t have put it better by saying ‘when one of us wins, we all win’ and that’s truly how the MIPIM delegation felt. With the public and private sector working together to build relationships and investor awareness of the city, we were going into the event as a formidable team.

Pegasus Group is still relatively new within the North East market, our offices opened in June last year and this year’s event was a fantastic opportunity for us to strengthen our connections within the North and build new relationships whilst on the Invest Newcastle stand.

Although this hasn’t been possible, Invest Newcastle has still worked tirelessly to put together a series of events allowing partners to network and get a taste for the presentations that were going to go ahead at MIPIM.

There was an excellent turnout at the ‘Meet on the Tyne’ event at By the River Brew Co and the following day an insightful afternoon programme hosted in The Biosphere at the Helix. Considering the team had such a short time to put the afternoon together, the detail and insight from speakers was simply inspiring. Speakers included: Nic Palmarini from the UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing;  Gordon Hewling from Avison Young and Peter Udall, Acting Strategic Director, Economy, Innovation & Growth at Gateshead Council.

It’s not clear at this time whether the rescheduled event will go ahead in June. However, the North East, alongside Developing Consensus and Invest Newcastle, will continue to shout about the significant opportunities available and the resilience we have as a region.

I am confident that as we continue to showcase our talents, innovative partnerships, developments and overall dynamic, our international proposition to investors will continue to go from strength-to-strength.
